Tribute to “Kalamata IN” by imerisia.gr
A nice tribute to the team of “Kalamata IN” was published in the newspaper “Imerisia”.
“A GREAT PROJECT – Kalamata IN” was the title of the tribute in which columnist Vasso Michopoulou unfolds the story of “Kalamata IN”.
At a time when fleeing the country seems like the only way out, a handful of very young people (under 30) from Kalamata are proving that you don’t have to leave your hometown to find a “higher level,” but you can stay and raise the bar yourself, he says.
Kalamatain.gr team, for a year and a half, managed to be the first to bring the 360 image of the city, the street view, to our mobile phones, tablets and computers. And the most important thing is that they did it before Google, the article highlights.
The initiator of the website, Pavlos Pavlou, began its creation in 2009, as an amateur effort… a first attempt at systematic engagement was made a year and a half ago… his sole purpose was to promote Kalamata in the best possible way.
“We are about fifteen people who “run” every day, some of us volunteer to highlight the comparative advantages of Kalamata, using fresh and innovative ideas, seeking collaborations with organizations, clubs and other groups in the city,” explains the 29-year-old administrator of the website, Pavlos Pavlou, who has a degree in Political Science and Law, while additionally studying Tourism and Information Technology. With basic weapons, knowledge of new technology, innovation and, above all, love for their place, the children have managed in a short period of time to stand out, not only locally, but also more widely and to gain the trust of their audience.
The interviews they have conducted with personalities inside and outside Greece, their participation in pavilions and exhibitions, their speeches at conferences, their support for events, their tributes from the press (local and central), and the creation of the Municipality’s website are no coincidence.
The virtual tour platform that the team has created, through which anyone can “walk” around Kalamata from their computer or mobile phone, is the most “advanced” thing anyone can see in the city at the moment.
Since the last update and the addition of the InCity° application, the website’s traffic reached 8,000 visits in its two weeks of operation, with 4,000 unique visitors from 60 countries, a fact that particularly pleases the team and gives it the courage to continue.
